I have also had success doing a 4eat Phase II Version II swap using the transmission out of a 2003 Impreza WRX along with the TCM and part of the harness from the same car. This is a good swap because the transmission can take more power, is direct controlled so easier to tune, and best of all has the VTD planetary center diff.

I see no reason that the 5eat couldn't be swapped in as long as you got a TCM from a 5eat car and enough of the harness to rig it up. You also obviously have to match the rear diff ratio to that of the front diff inside the transmission. I didn't do the 5eat purely because I am cheap and the 4eat from the wrx cost me nothing.
