what Huck said is correct and much better said than I managed.

Couple other things I forgot (just in case). Make sure you fill the TC with ATF before putting it back. And when you insert the TC back into the tranny, rotate it a time or two while pressing in a bit. It's like there's a double detent and you have to get this second position right or the TC sleeve will push against the pump and ruin it when it's all bolted up. Final test to make sure the TC is fully seated is when the tranny mates with the engine. The TC should spin with no more than finger pressure at the opening that's used to remove the 4 bolts. That makes it handy since you don't have to worry about matching the TC to flexplate holes as you insert.
