So after looking around, it seems like it could be the oil seal for the transmission, or the torque converter. Either way, the tranny is coming out

So does anyone know how to determine if the TC is bad?
Is there anything else that could be the culprit?
Is there a way to determine if my tranny is bad? going bad? fine?
(Chilton's transmission section is not very extensive, at all
)
Basically, I'm going to take the tranny out again and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for how to go about diagnosing this problem. The last thing I want it to take that thing out again... Thoughts?
