Marissa,
It sounds like you've got an air pocket in the cooling system, pretty common when refilling a Subaru after it's been drained, check the coolant level in the radiator for the next few days, and keep it topped off, the air should work itself out after it's been run a couple days, just don't let it get to hot.

I don't recall any place to bleed the air out on a SVX motor, like there is on the XT6 motor.
