The power light comes on for one of three reasons:

1) self test at startup. All of your warning lights (ABS, AIRBAG, CHECK ENGINE, ETC..) light up for a few seconds after startup to show you that they are working. If the light doesn't come on when you first stat the car, the bulb has probably burned out.

2) it lights up with rapid use of the gas pedal. It signals that the transmission has gone into "power" mode and it will wait until redline before it shifts.

3) It blinks if it detects a problem with the transmission. The number of blinks tells you what the problem is.

As far as your speedo, you probably have a bad speed sensor.

So, when does your power light come on?
