Does anyone besides me believe that if the bolt was torqued down a bit more the problem with the "key, pulley, etc" would
never happen?
I bought a new Subaru legacy in 1990 and when it was time for the "40,000 mile, 40 weeks after I purchased it, service-timing belt, etc I took it to a dealer to do it to "preserve" the warranty. They said if I didn't the warranty would be void. A few thousand miles later, I had the "key-pulley" problem and they simply said it was pretty common.
That was the last time it went to the "experts".
300,000 miles later with the Legacy and about 160,000 SVX miles with removal and reinstalling the "big old pulley" no more problems, although I have removed and reinstalled the thing at
least 20 times on various different motors.
However, I always torque it down pretty good... with a big break-over bar and a big mauler!
At least 460,000 miles later logic tells me when I do it like that, it "ain't" going anywhere... and it hasn't so far.
