Sadly, there is no fabrication in that story, only creative embellishment. The miracle is that during the disbelieving stupor of witnessing this event, somehow I was clever enough to think to use the magic trunk release. I suppose it helps that I had been playing with it all week.
Things I learned:
.) The trunk will not open while the car is in drive, but it will open in park, neutral, and even reverse.
.) The key fob range is about 50 feet, but over 200 if parked in an alleyway.
.) Power windows can crush pop cans, but not with all four windows simultaneously.
.) The sunroof cannot crush pop cans.
.) GM's supercharged V6
really hates low octane fuel, but doesn't mind the mid-grade stuff.
.) Traction control is very effective, but no fun to drive.
.) ABS takes precedent over traction control; Lightly riding the brake pedal will disable the traction control.
.) GM's supercharged V6 will light up the front tires in second gear.
.) GM's supercharged V6 really needs traction control.
.) Traction control does work rather well off-road.
.) Those GM sedans have horrible ground clearance.
.) Never buy a used rental car.
