From my days when I used to do a bit of messing about at AWDC events I learnt that touching the brakes on downhill descents resulted in a loss of control. By keeping the car in Manu I'm able to adapt quite well to conditions so putting it in 1 to go downhill seems to control the speed and keep it low enough not to build any momentum. It does put a smile on my face to see people wondering how a car that looks like the SVX just wafts effortlessly past them when they are frantically spinning their wheels to get grip.
