It is harmful. It's how I make a living.
As for downloading stuff that isn't for sale any more, that's a grey area. Yeah, it's stealing somebody's intellectual property, but they're probably not currently making any money off of it.
But you said you were downloading a game that just hit the shelves. Unfortunately, that's different.
Make games impossible to copy? Oh, come on. That's simply not possible. There's
always a way to pirate it. And the stronger anti-piracy measures publishers use, the less people buy it and the more it gets pirated.
