Thanks, I'll give it a try. Probably while you were posting I did the tranny diagnostics thing and my power light just stays lit solid. Alldata say (when that happens) to check the inhibitor switch, manual switch, idle switch, wiring and TCU, in that order. So I tried starting it in reverse and the engine cranked over - so it's sure not inhibiting (don't know what that means about the switch, but your idea seems sound).
