The shift cable was not connected to the tranny when I picked up the car. Doesn't matter where the transmission is, if the indicator is showing 1st, it won't start. If that's the case your indicator is bad.
Do you have any bad transmissions sitting around? Pull the indicator off one of them and plug it in.
