The shift cable was not connected to the tranny when I picked up the car. I manually moved the gear selector on the transmission into neutral after breaking it loose from the first gear position where it was stuck. The shift indicator on the dash indicated 1st gear still though. I completely disconnected the TCU and the plugs from the tranny and that also made no difference.

To sum it all up:
TCU & Tranny connectors unplugged
shift cable disconnected
transmission is in neutral
shifter is in Park
Still no crank!
