A "ghetto" fix would be a small piece of card stock folded under the metal contact on the side of the plug. Ahh the lessons learned on 8-track tapes. This will hold the ground out so it makes positive contact with the socket.
I'd also check the depth of the socket to ensure the plug is long enough to reach the positive button in the bottom. DON'T use a screwdriver for this. use a wood pencil, or a plastic pen
