Re: Tracking down the latest leak
Took the old clamp off and put a new one on today. The hose had a small indentation where the tab dug into it but it seemed otherwise intact so I just slid the new clamp on over it and tightened it down. I started the car and ran the tranny through all the gears, as I had done yesterday to find the leak, and it didn't seem to be leaking. So I will see how it goes for the next day or two.
Overnight, a couple of new spots did show up under the car. They were small and obviously took a long time to drip down. One spot came from the shield around the exhaust just in front of the driver's side precat. The other came from a black tube that runs under the transmission. I assume that is some crossmember to hold the tranny? I wiped everything down and will see what new moisture shows up over the next couple of days.
I bought four clamps just in case I need to replace the clamps on both sides of these lines. One thing I did was pre-shape these clamps. They don't exactly come shaped in the ideal round form. I took a socket from my socket set that had about a 16mm OD. I loosely tightened the clamp onto it and then used a pair of needle nose pliers to shape the clamp around the socket. I then tightened further and repeated. I turned it around and repeated on the other side of the clamp. They came out looking nice and circular and the tab seemed to slide nicely around the hose.
