Where I come from (not Harvard by any means), we were taught that is the only right way to use commas in a list like that. Didn't realize it was "optional"!
I moonlight as a Jumbotron operator and I'm always using "Harvard commas" on the birthday lists and such, even when the script doesn't list them that way. Guess I don't have to!  |
I was actually taught the way without the extra comma, but I think it makes more sense with it in there. I use it!
