Re: mild front end end shake

So, as promised, I asked about checking the "run out " on my rotors when it was up in the air, getting it's summer sneakers put on.

The conversation went like this...

Me: " Do you have a dial indicator booting around here somewhere?"

Apprentice: " What do you want one of those for?"

Me: "I get a pulsing in the steering wheel when I get on the brakes over 120, I want to check the run out on the front discs"

Apprentice: "Nah.. I don't think we even have one. If there's pulsing, we either machine the rotors, or just replace them, as long as everything else is fine."

Me: "And that always solves the problem?"

Apprentice: "Yup, every time."

One of the other mechanics overheard us and commented that some manufacturers finish the rotor "on the car", and that that would also address any out of roundness in the hub.

I'll be the first to admit, this is the shop's first SVX, and there may be a lot of truth to the other possible causes posted here, but the answer I got was pretty specific.

I was surprised that they didn't have one, although it's possible that they do, and the apprentice had just never seen it used. Guess what I'm buying him next Christmas?
