just my opinion, but your average 3 and 5 series BMW's are everywhere and i'm just sick of looking at them. nice cars, but there's something about their appearance that just says "i'm boring!" i wouldn't mind a M3, M5 or one of those new 6-series, though. 
i'd hold out for the new turbo Legacy if you want sport-luxury (and AWD!) and have the cash, but that's just me.
