I have a copy of a GM 'memo' where they instruct the techs on how to PATCH UP the problem till it's OUT of warrenty! They even made a 'special' rod bearing that could be put in to quiet the knock for a few thousand miles.
Put on a band-aid, blue gue the pan back on, add heavier oil. Chevy will run till we can blame the owner and charge him for our garbage!
I actually have removed a chevrolet head that had the exhaust port 30% covered by SLAG! (and they wonder WHY they are losing 'market share'!!!
