Cigar,
I have read accounts of SVX rollovers, SVXers driving into trees, and being hit by other cars.
With one glaring exception, all SVX drivers and passengers walked away.
Unfortunately, the exception was fatal. However, in this incident the SVXer was very DWI, going way to fast, and doing all the wrong things.
Subarus are quite safe. My wife totaled her '96 Outback and walked away. I was on cloud nine for about a month.
