As I said above, you really need to know both high and low side pressures to tell. Yes it could be your compressor, but it could be other stuff too.

I would suggest you get a pro to tell you what's wrong even if you don't have the cash to fix it. Near me it's only like $15 for a full system test. The best part is that's usually refundable if you later get the work done in the same place.

If you're worried about getting ripped off, then go to two places - at worst you're out another $15.

I can help somewhat in diagnosis, but when it came time to pull the freon out and put it back, I went to a pro. I just did the wrench turning in between, i.e., I had to replace my compressor (and receiver/drier - they're like a tag team).
