I would mount it on the rear.

My wife drove about 15-20 miles on a flat right rear tire through some mountain twisties, I know she wasn't going slower than 45 mph. When she heard the noise and figured out what was wrong, the sidewall was gone. There was probably less than 8" of connecting material between the tread and the bead, nice big holes to be able to inspect the inside of the tire.

If the tire had been on the front, I think we would probably have found her in the bottom of some ravine.

As far as the potential of screwing up your lsd, you can adjust the rolling circumference by playing with your air pressure.
