Pulled into the parking lot of the grocery store the other day and there was a beautiful smoke silver Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 in mint condition sitting there. This is the high-performance version of Mercedes' "Baby Benz" sedan built from 1985-87 with a Cosworth engine and it's probably been YEARS since I've seen one locally. When I came out of the store, a college- age guy was standing next to it with the door open eating a donut, so I complimented him on how clean it was. I asked him if he had to bring it in from somewhere and he said it had been in the family since new and only had about 90k miles on it. I'm sure it was older than he was. Unfortunately, I was driving my Legacy wagon at the time so there was really nothing interesting for me to bring up about my own car. His was just like the one in this link except it had black wheels:

My other automotive passion was 190e's until the last one I had two years ago suffered a completely seized engine with no warning whatsoever. Still, I'd love to drive a nice 190e 16 with the 5-speed Getrag tranny like that kid had. It's nice to know there are still a few nice hidden treasures out there.
