Fiberglass hood and hood struts

I just bought Rebecca's old fiberglass hood (I love it, thanks Rebecca ) but I have noticed that there are no holes in it to attach the hoodstruts.

Now, I have replaced the OEM struts with some aftermarket ones as outlined by Jon's instructions and they have been working perfectly on my old hood.

My question is, can I drill holes into the crossbeam (for lack of a better term) on the underside of the hood to attach the hoodstruts?

With the entire thing being fiberglass I wasn't sure if that would be too much strain on it and break while trying to close the hood.

Does anyone have any experience on this that I could benefit from? Thanks
