i have a center post lift at the shop i'm at now. it's been in the ground for nearly fifty years and never lost any fluid. the newer ones tend to use mineral based oils in case it leaks. when people talk about them leaking it is usually from one cylinder to the other as in they leak down. if you leave a heavy car on it overnight it might not be as high as when you left it.
