The gauge thing is bugging me too. Are there any other Subi models that have the same sending unit? Im sure the dealership will rape me if I get a new one there..

90-94 Legacies might have the same sending kit. However, a used one will probably have the same problem as you do when it comes to the gauge being wacky. I don't trust the gauge on my car, but I do trust the low fuel light. They are on different senders.
