The problem didn't return after I did the battery unplug procedure, so I guess it's just an intermittent phenomena for now... but I'll archive your advice so I know what to do if it becomes a re-occuring problem.

Pete, I'd go ahead and get the relay and have it on standby. As you can see by the TSB, it is an intermittent problem that will eventually get worse. Anyway, that's what I would do.
