I know the answer to this one
UK cars have an engine oil cooler, water is taken from the water pump to cool the oil/modine. The UK pump has 3 pipes coming from it instead of the normal US/JDM 2. I know this because several years ago I bought a US water pump, and had to have it drilled/tapped for the extra pipe.
