Sorry, I just saw this post for the first time. I miss a few occasionally.

Have you tried putting the fuse in just to see if it makes a difference? If it's only pulling on the front wheels it sounds as though you may have transfer clutch issues. Inserting the fuse might allow you to confirm this if the popping goes away, plus it could eliminate chasing shadows elsewhere. Otherwise I'd just go to a local garage, etc. that has a hoist that can lift the car completely off the ground and check for loose/worn suspension, axles, etc. While it's on the hoist you can run it in gear and check to see if it is actually AWD or not.
