Distance and gearing matter little. Wind-up ANY car on the Bonneville Salt Flats, with any gear ratio, and top speed will hit the wall when it runs out of horsepower. Keep running flat-out for the rest of the day, if you want, but you won't go one bit faster unless you pick-up a tailwind.
Somebody calculated that an SVX with stock gearing, in fourth gear, would be doing close to 200 mph at redline. Thing is, it doesn't have the muscle to get to get there. (If it did, surely there would be fewer on the road today.)
