I will tell you what must be done in this case:

-He should take out all the seats and the floor carpeting.
-Then he should take out all the modules he can see and which are bolted at the bottom of the car (abs, cruise.....) open them up, dry them real good
-Leave the car in the sun for a couple of days...
-Put everything on again and start the car...
-Go to an exhaust shop and remove EVERYTHING RELATED TO IT for mufflers, CO sensors, etc..... and replace them with new ones...

The same case happened to me 2 yrs ago and this is what i did and it worked perfectly...
