Unless your ECU is having issues, or has learned to run off midgrade and just started using premium....
im sure its all in your head...that happens to me all the time! i think something is up, when really its just me!,
The octane rating on the gas is a rating of the stability of the gas( in general, dont rip me apart here guys). The hgigh the octane rating the more controlled the explosion is, cuasing for not only better gas milage, but cooler buring conditions:more power.

p.s. did the gas you were using contane ethynol(sp)?
