The rear bearings on my '96 first failed at ~110K miles. I replaced both and my car now has 127K miles with no more failures. Have the bearings packed properly with the right high-temp grease and have them installed properly - and they'll last!

And yeah....what Matt said about weight! Btw, my awd L model weighs even less.
