It's been a couple weeks since the banquet and our new logo was decided, but it is finally up on all the web pages. Only thing left is to get the new logo on the flyers that you guys hand out so many of.
That will happen soon too.
I was reminded of an issue and figured this would be a good time to discuss it.
The Northwest SVX logo was created for use by our club as we see fit. I believe the logo should be used exclusively by Northwest SVX for official Northwest SVX business. Basically, it shouldn't be used as the name and/or logo for another web site/club, shouldn't be used to promote an inappropriate event, etc. This hasn't happened in the past and I don't really think it would ever be an issue.
The second part of exclusive rights may be of more interest as it applies to merchandise with the club name and/or logo. Merchandise could include, but is not limited to; T-shirts, stickers, mugs, decals, etc. While it is a good thing to have as much free advertising out there as possible, it is not a good thing to take away from potential income for the club.
As I've said before, I want to try to keep membership in Northwest SVX free of charge so that it is open for anybody to join and so that we don't have to concentrate on coming up with premiums to justify a fee instead of concentrating on our goals of promoting the SVX and putting on great events for owners.
To accomplish those goals there are some costs involved, so without relying on a membership fee we must rely on donations and merchandising. I would like to rely on the former as little as possible, which means coming up with some effective income-generating merchandise options. Watch for the store link on the site to continue to expand to include new options. But if someone else starts selling an alternative product, whether intentionally or not, this is competition and will take away from resources that otherwise could help keep us going.
The bottom line. It would be
greatly appreciated that if you come up with a product that uses the Northwest SVX name and/or logo that you plan to sell (even if you yourself aren't making a profit), please let me know first so we can discuss it. Most likely there will not be a problem, we will just agree on a percentage/amount from each item that will go to the club fund. I would in fact encourage the talented members we have out there to come up with some ideas and set up agreements like this with me, the more options we have for merchandise out there, the better.
