check both the bulb and the socket again. I've seen the prongs in the bulb get "pushed in" and cause a poor connection (replace the bulb). I've also seen the socket either melt or become brittle (replace the socket).
I've replaced the socket 2 or 3 times on mine. The last time i put some conductive paste in the holes in the socket before I put the bulb in. I haven't had a problem since. I'm also running 80W bulbs.
