I finally found out the answers to the two questions highlighted in red above...
These phone calls were made to me by Dan Mancini (SVX92-97), using a very convincing accent, (a sort of combination Hispanic/ southern/ black, slightly slurred drawl). He thought I would catch onto him at some point.
After I emailed Dan the latest information on the offering, he and decided to come clean and leave me a voice message before I called the REAL Josh Ellis in Tennessee and offered to accept his deal. An email from Dan was also in my mailbox this morning and it said:
"The Joke is on you. I never laughed so hard in my life. That was me pretending to be Josh Ellis, and you fell for it, not once, but TWICE. I can't believe you didn't recognize my voice. You've known me for how long now?? 3 years! Sorry, I hope you're not mad, it was a funny prank, but I had to let you know before you called Josh and looked stupid. Call me"
For just a moment, I had wondered why someone would slash the price of the car by $1000.00, and then an additional $500.00 less than an hour later, but quickly dismissed it from my mind.
So it seems that svxcess has been PUNK'D for the second time this year (first the Reading 9 "oil spill" and now this...)
In the words of our most articulate, soon-departing and soon-to-be ex-president...
"Fool me once, shame on ... .shame on you..... Fool me... .you can't get fooled again!
I guess this was an inaccurate statement...
