I try to find 3M spray because there are no petro products in it. However, I have not been able to find it and used some with petro products and it worked fine. Spary a little on a piece of plastic that is in a non-visable area and see if it harms it. The petro propellants will evaporate off quickly and those chemicals may harm plastic. I did mine about 2 years ago and it took about a month to work it's way in. It is still holding up okay. Most of the noise in my car is from the plastic trying sliding against another piece of plastic. This makes it snap and pop. The silicone allows it to slide and not make noise.
I would rather try this than taking the dash out.
