Washers might work if you get the right sizes, which armrests are you talking about? The door armrests are screwed into metal, you would need to tighten them pretty hard to break the holes. When I put in my 6x9's I tightened all the back nuts and actually snapped a bolt
I haven't figured out what it goes to yet and the bolt is still suspended, just not attached.
