Because the spoiler is an option... there are 4 small mounting points molded into the underside fiberglass trunk lid... so drilling is a no brainer.

Actually, there is no pre-formed gasket between the spoiler and the trunk lid. What is used is a thin strip of rope caulking. This is available at most body shops or parts stores.
Roll a thin strip between the palm of you hands, and completely surround the two mounting studs on the spoiler, pressing it lightly into place. When you bolt the spoiler in place, the rope caulk compresses and forms a waterproof seal.
