I think I'm one of the only people who's had both the 4.44 auto and 5 speed in the same car.
The 4.44 upgrade is what the svx should have come with originally. It really is peppy and responsive when needed. Fuel efficiency was still there as I averaged 24-28 mpg on the highway.
With the 3.90 5 speed, I am pulling
exactly the same RPMs on the highway as the 4.44, so this is something to keep in mind if any of you guys are looking to switch but afraid of the RPMs. It is also much faster and lighter feeling than with the 4.44. The car is a whole different animal, and it feels like it doesn't wallow or lean as much in the turns due to the decreased weight.
There was nothing wrong with my automatic, but I've had the itch for 3 pedals as long as I can remember. I've been asked by a few members as to why I switched, but now I can say what the differences are after having both.
