"Dry Joint", is the term for a soldered joint, where the solder has not properly fused with the parent metal, and this is a production fault, rather than one associated with wear and tear.

You are right, Trevor, dry socket is a dental term.
On the wear and tear front, I would have thought that a pin that may only have been lightly soldered at the factory could work its way to an intermittent loose connection over the years. Particularly with all the temperature cycling and vibration it is subjected to in the engine bay. No? Otherwise how does it work OK for years, and then start to give intermittent signals?
