Do you have the original knock sensors? You might want to see about getting a Subaru mechanic with a SSM to drive it around and see what's going on with your ignition advance. The other thing to check is the small check valve that is installed between two pieces of tubing coming out of the large black box mounted under the intake manifold. It's just behind the power steering pump and (obviously) under the intake manifold. This valve has been known to crack with age and will result in a non functioning IRIS valve.

i'm not sure if the knock sensors are original or not. i've had the car for 10 months now and i haven't replaced them. the iris valve is working cause i can feel it kick in around 4500 rpm or so. i'm gonna buy a g-tech in a couple weeks and see what i'm working with here.
