The rear windshield for the SVX is encapsulated, meaning that the molding and glass are manufactured together as one piece. The foam/rubber dam which is available separately is not the same thing as the surround molding. It is only a sticky foam which is sometimes used in glass installations to prevent the urethane from oozing where it isn't supposed to go, or to hide the glue bead.

An online subaru svx parts catalog lists the rear windshields surrounding rubber gasket as a separate item. Is it possible to just purchase the rear gasket and install?
On, a rear glass such as the SVX, the window would have to come out in order for a new molding to be properly seated onto the glass (before it is set into the car). In the case of the rear window molding flaking which is common along the top of the SVX, there is no replacement molding that is manufactured that would be an exact fit, so the only "proper" fix would be to replace the entire glass.

The only reason I claim any expertise in this field is because this is what I deal with everyday for a living, managing a small auto glass company.
