I had this very conversation with my mechanic last week when he replaced mine (for the second time) and he said they always re-pack new bearing sets. This fellow has never given me any reason not to trust him.

AlcyoneDaze, I always give the shop a detailed list of what I want done (and on rare occasion the parts, too), but this time they thought I was off my rocker when I went in and said it was time for new bearings after 40,000 miles. I left the car there for an afternoon and that evening the boss fairly growled, "I agree with ya that somthing's goin' on with them bearings," almost as if he'd wished I'd been wrong.

Then he asked, "Is it just somethin' about that car?"

I'd be interested in knowing how many miles folks typically get on new bearings. Good luck.
