You are exactly right, we have not read the manual only when something happens. Just found out about the windshield wipers and their "normal" and "winter" settings. Geez, you learn something new every day about this wonderful car. Am driving it to work today (ya ha) but I got 16 POWER flashes. Need to find out what that means.

Only wimps read the manual.
Your blinky Power light means a problem with the transmission, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
If you click into the How To section at the top of the page you will see this page:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?How-To
You then click on Electrical to get to this page :
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?How-To|14242
Click on Diagnostic Codes to get to this page:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?How-To|14263
Now on this page you must click on
Engine Codes and Instructions, and NOT How to Read Codes with pictures.
This is because Engine Codes downloads a Word Document which
also has instructions how to query the TCU, the transmission computer.
Perform this test and let us know what you find out.
Joe
[We are planning to restructure this section to make it a bit more intuitive.]
