No solution for you but you really shouldn't have needed to remove the needles to install the white gauge faces. You sort of snake the needle thru the hole in the gauge face and carefully pull it past the biggest diameter of the needle assembly. (Just a warning for any future white gauge face installers.)

Could your problem be a coincidence with the standard sender unit contact problem? Maybe a used gauge assembly via another SVXer or ebay could be used to fully replace the fuel gauge?
