Sorry for showing my sarcasm, I know the wheels were bolted on. And if we would have been told in the beginning that you towed the car without the axles in place, we would have immediately known that the lack of axles was the problem and would have avoided all the questions about previous noises and other components.

The bearings were possibly good and silent before this. But the axle is what holds them together. At this point you can probably pull them back together and makes sure the outer dust seal is in place. But I see new front bearings in your near future.
