Understood dcarrb, and 99.9% of the time what you're saying is correct. However, with certain cars where a manufacturer overlooked something desirable to some buyers, an aftermarket add-on can actually increase the value significantly.
Case in point is the 3000GT Spyder. Prior to '95, the only way to have a convertible 3000GT was through the aftermarket - a company called ASC in Southern CA. The workmanship was so good, that Mitsubishi approached the company to build 1,000 convertible 3000GT's in the '95/'96 model years. Even when Mitsubishi did this, it was still an aftermarket add-on as the cars were shipped 'whole' from Japan to ASC's factory, where the roof was chopped off and the body stiffened.
Now, Subaru never turned to the aftermarket to build a 5spd SVX, but I certainly feel it's an add-on that will increase the value of the car to some buyers - and the result of the SmallCar auction backs me up in saying this.
