Misc. Ramblings

Saturday morning I was at MFSD (my favorite Suby dealer) getting my front rotors turned. Most of you know that I warpped them trying to keep a tow truck from becoming a permanent hood ornament. They have an interesting new machine that does this. It's all computerized. First, it spins the disc. Then, it reads the irregularities in the disc starting from the outer dia. and working it's way toward the inside. When it reaches the inside, it beeps, the fingers holding the cutting tool close the right amount and it starts cutting and traveses toward the outter dia. again. Once it's done it beeps again and automatically shuts off. Unfortunately, the minimum thickness of metal that this machine can remove is six thousanths of an inch. Their old machine could do a min. of two thousanths.

Interestingly, the passenger side rotor was warpped slightly more than the one on the driver's side. I would have thought it would have been the other way around since my weight is always on the driver's side.

The brakes seemed pretty good after that but I have not given them a real test yet.
