Yes, there are various engine swaps that people have done. There is even one person I know of who is putting an EJ33 from an SVX into his. I've seen lots of swaps with 911 engines of various displacements. Even turbos! Others like good 'ole 'Merican iron and put big a$$ v8s in. Others get other Suby engines. For some reason (availability?) the 2.7L Turbo from an XT6 seems to be a popular one. I bet that as more ricer rich kids smash their WRX STi, people will be pulling those engines out and converting.

One big problem with the 911, or other big displacement engine swaps is that it totally messes up the balance of the car. My rebuilt 2 liter is never going to win me any stoplight drag races, but you'll have a tough time keeping up with me on a winding road course. My 914 can outhandle the new Mitsubishi Evo VII given a driver of equal skill....
