my brother put one on his brand new forester, took it to the dealer for one of his first free oil changes and they left it open. i have had them on my cars before (they are still on the cars i just don't own them, i know because i still change their oil) without any issues. just don't let anyone else change your oil because for some reason they are too complicated for the monkeys on the lube racks.
